Band at Saint Mary
At SMS, we believe the performing arts play an important role in a child’s education. Music not only sparks creativity, but also builds skills such as focus, coordination, and discipline that carry into every area of learning.
Band Program (Grades 4–8)
Students in grades 4 through 8 have the opportunity to participate in band. This program helps children develop musical knowledge, performance skills, and an appreciation for music. Studies show that learning to play an instrument provides brain development benefits similar to learning a foreign language.
Band members showcase their talents throughout the year at events such as the Christmas and Spring Concerts, Solo Contest, and the Buffalo Grove Days Parade.
Flutofone Program (Grade 3)
To prepare younger students for band, our third graders are offered a free six-week flutofone class. At the conclusion of the program, they perform alongside the SMS junior and senior bands at the spring concert.
